BoxyCharm Unboxing

New year, new beauty subscription.  I was recently introduced to BoxyCharm, a subscription “blind box” that provides 4-5 full sized beauty items each month.  A subscription costs $21/month with free shipping and Decembers “Jingle Belles” box held a value of $114.95.  Although BoxyCharm is one of the pricier subscriptions, the product value is undoubtedly present.  Since blind boxes can be hit or miss on a month-to-month basis, I’m sharing a fully detailed unboxing of my first BoxyCharm to introduce you to the brand.

You may have noticed and found it odd that I’m reviewing a December box in nearly February.  The first time the box was shipped to me it got lost in the postal mess that is Christmastime.  When I communicated this with BoxyCharm, they immediately sent me a new box with 3-day expedited shipping.  The customer service department is on point.

Coastal Scents Revealed Palette: “Expose your natural beauty with this exquisite collection of nude and metallic hues. The slim palette holds all twenty shadows, allowing for easy on-the-go application.” $39.95

I love neutrals and I think this range of shadows is perfect for daily use.  The Revealed Palette seems to be an Urban Decay “Naked Palette” dupe; at $40 with 20 shadows compared to $54 with 12 shadows it proves to be a really strong alternative, or even companion.  Coastal Scents may have been able to price it down by the exclusion of a mirror and a brush, but the shadows are highly pigmented and of good quality (which is all that really matters).  I recently posted an everyday smokey eye tutorial using the Revealed Palette, viewable here.

Eyelashi Luxury Mink Lashes: “Luxury lashes with combined durability that creates long lasting beauty.  These lashes are made from real fur which is collected cruelty-free and can be worn up to 40 times.  Mink material makes high-quality, soft, natural, comfortable strip lashes that are perfect for everyday wear.” $29.00

I’m a lash fiend so even though I’ll get a lot of use from the Revealed Palette, this is my favorite item from the box.  Cruelty-free mink lashes are the best type of strip lashes for a fluffy, natural look.  They came in their own little faux-quilted box which made them feel all the more luxurious.  Although ‘Stunner’ was the style sent to me, I would probably order ‘Heartbreaker’ if given the option to achieve a more daytime appropriate look.

Mistura Beauty Solutions Retractable Beauty Brush: “The ultra-soft synthetic-hair bristles pop out from the handle and wash the cheeks with your customized Mistura shade!  Our Hot To: Fan it out fully to sweep powder over your face or retract your brush upwards for more concentrated pigmentation around the eyes, cheekbones or to cover hard-to-reach blemish areas around the nose.” $19.99

You can never have too many makeup brushes.  A synthetic brush like this is best used for creams and liquids, as opposed to powders which require a natural-hair brush.  Synthetic bristles also gravitate towards one another making them perfect for precision application.

Be A Bombshell Lip Products: “Be A Bombshell’s lip formulas offer long lasting color and high shine with a smooth finish.” $14

I received the Bombshell lip gloss in ‘Kiss Off,’ a shimmery shade of hot pink.  This isn’t a shade that I would have ever chosen for myself but thats a risk you take with blind boxes.

Eva NYC Hair Products *Travel Size*: “Eva NYC is a line of professional styling tools, hair care, and accessories that takes inspiration from the runways and gets salon-quality results with the use of advanced technologies and ingredients.” $7-$12

–I love Eva NYC so I was excited to receive another Hungry Hair Oil Treatment.  It had leaked a bit onto the other products in the box, but didn’t manage to ruin anything.  I use hair oils everyday and this one in particular is one of my favorites.

Would you have preferred to watch this unboxing in a YouTube video?  I keep meaning to start my channel but I can’t get over how awkward it is to talk to a camera…

  • If you start a YouTube I’ll be your first subscriber! (Or like top 100 because I’m not the only one wanting you too) But I totally get the talking in front of a camera thing! However, I adore the Reveal palette and glad to see this BoxyCharm Unboxing had some great products!

  • I love this idea! About a year ago, I was going to sign up for “Birch Box”… But I think it was sample sizes and probably about the same price so I decided not to! But thank you for putting this out there, never heard of it so it’s good to share!

  • Have you ever tried the Motives Cosmetics” makeup line??? Omg! I have seriously tried EVERY expensive make up product out there, one of my favorite lines was “MAC”! I never cared about the price, I just always wanted to look good, LOL! MAC as you all probably know is used by most make up artists, because of the extensive product line, has the ability of being able “blend” colors for an individual’s skin tone, etc., sculpting, all kinds of good things! But I wanted to share this… “Motives” Cosmetics is made by the VERY SAME manufacturer as MAC!!!! … I also learned that Motives Cosmetics have about 18% pigment compared to MAC, which only has about 9% pigment! I thought that was AMAZING comparison, and not to mention the COMPARISON IN PRICE! Motives is MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE! If you haven’t tried “Motives”, you should check it out! I do have a link posted on my blog at Hollysbeutydeals.com! I just started my blog page so hopefully I didn’t screw it up and you’ll be able to see the link! Lol… IF you want to know more about the products individually, feel free to send me any questions! They also have lessons you can take around the country to become certified in Motives Cosmetics, just like MAC has! There is a class that I am going to be taking- it teaches you on blending and also sculpting know-how’s with your make up! Depending on the class you want to take, they are usually like $25 for maybe 3-4 hours, and they are so much fun and you learn a so much! I am a full-time CJ college student, I do you have my cosmetology license but I switched my career and have decided to get my bachelors degree and help work in the juvenile court system! So, even for someone like me not to earn money by becoming a certified make up artist, I just want to learn the shortcut tricks to do on myself! It’s a great make up line, and trust me…like I said I’ve used almost everything out there LOL! Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you about THIS Makeup Line for all you “BEAUTY LOVERS” lilke me, so thank you for letting me post this and share this info. along, because since I think it’s important to share with each other some of the greatest products out there that can help save money but are just as great! please feel free to check out my blog or respond on my page as well! LOVE TO ALL!

  • Such a fun read! My best friend actually introduced Boxy Charm to me last week and I subscribed right away – she was overly enthusiastic about the packaging and the little goodies inside the box. I’m stoked to receive mine !! PS – I can’t even begin to explain how many times I have attempted to talk my little heart away to the camera and how awkward I felt. It will definitely take some time, this post was however an easy and quick read! Keep it up 🙂

  • I am on the hunt for a new brush and am determined to learn how to apply falsies in 2015. Maybe you could do a post on a tutorial for the ‘false eyelash intimidated’ like me! ha ha

    • I used to be terrible at applying lashes! It would take me half an hour– it just takes some practice 🙂 I’ll try to do a little tutorial soon~
